Question: While we were programming the SICK SKS36 encoders memory which belongs to REXROTH MSK07E servo motor , we noticed the ''Program 0-511'' and ''Program 0-255'' boxes. We couldn't find any information in the user manual. Would you like to explain program memory page in detail.
Answer:
Thank you for bringing this to our attention. This feature is a vestige from the legacy Indramat MDD/MHD encoder programming function (I2C protocol) in which legacy Stegmann encoders should not be programmed in a certain way. It does not apply to the modern SICK Stegmann Hiperface series of encoders used on MSK motors. Future software releases will have this option removed. For now, keep it on the default setting of "Program 0-511".
For more information on the use of this function on legacy Indramat I2C encoders, please read this supplemental Indramat Programming Manual: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ksxzbjjmnv36tuu/TI5000EX_IndramatEEPROMManual3.pdf?dl=0
Programming Range – For Indramat/Heidenhain encoders, you will normally program the entire 512 bytes of data from the file into the encoder memory. For Indramat/Stegmann encoders, some of the data in the high 256 bytes of memory appears to be specific to the particular encoder, and therefore probably should be left intact. This can be accomplished by clicking the Program 0-255 radio button. As described above, this button is automatically set if Stegmann data is detected when you read the data file in from the disk. If Stegmann data is not detected, the Program 0-511 radio button is selected. You may click either button to over-ride these automatic settings.
