Overview
The TI-3000JX run test system is designed as universal drive to run servo motors with many different options for feedback type and motor setup. However, it is important to understand the limitations of the run test system, particularly with regard to feedback alignment, diagnostics, and error reporting. This article outlines important considerations when using the TI-3000JX, and best practices to avoid any potential damages to the system. As a general rule, do not use the TI-3000JX to test or align motor feedback devices. This should be done first with the TI-5000JX before a TI-3000JX run test is performed. The TI-5000JX has many more advanced test and diagnostic features that are not present in the run test system.
Key Considerations
-
Generic and Manufacturer-Specific test selections
The "Generic" selections in the TI-3000JX provide the ability to test run many different brands of servo motor using custom settings for feedback type, alignment, motor poles, direction relationship, and more. This means that a servo motor could be made to run smoothly on the TI-3000JX, even though it may not run well on the intended drive which may have different requirements for those settings. In comparison, manufacturer-specific selections are pre-configured to run from the standard alignment of that motor make/series, or will read the stored memory data if it contains a unique alignment.
-
No feedback alarms
The TI-3000JX does not provide the level of error reporting or alarm indicators from the feedback device like the TI-5000JX will show. This means that even if a feedback is not correctly aligned or starts to throw alarms during the run, the system will still attempt to run the motor without regard for these alarms.
-
Symptoms of misalignment
If the motor's feedback is misaligned compared to the TI-3000JX settings, the motor may exhibit imbalanced or unstable speeds, excessive vibration and noise, locking up, or rotating in the incorrect direction.
Best Practices
-
Always use the TI-5000JX for alignment
Before using the TI-3000JX to run a motor, verify and align the encoder using the TI-5000JX. This ensures the motor will operate correctly and safely.
-
Complete the two-step DEBUG procedure before each run test
Always complete the full DEBUG process before running any motor with the TI-3000JX. This step is critical for ensuring the system is setup correctly and to avoid any potential damages during the motor operation. https://youtu.be/Z9WXUQJVspk?t=120
Need a Specific Run Test?
The TI-3000JX supports many of the encoders and feedbacks available for the TI-5000JX. If you need to check compatibility or request a run test for a specific motor, please reach out to support: https://www.mitchell-electronics.com/support/
