Determining Motor Forward Direction

It is important to be connected to the motor's UVW power leads in the correct phase order, or else the feedback alignment will not be correct. To confirm the correct connections, perform the motor forward direction test. Every motor brand is standardized to either CW or CCW forward rotation. For example, Siemens and many German motor brands are often CW forward rotation. Yaskawa, Fanuc, and other Japanese motor brands are often CCW forward rotation.

Interchanging the UVW power pins can change the motor's forward direction of rotation. Performing this simple test will confirm you are connected in the correct phase order.
