The Bosch Rexroth MS2S series servo motors, optimized for the ctrlX DRIVE system, are designed to deliver high performance and precision in industrial automation applications. These motors are equipped with an 18-bit multi-turn magnetic encoder, known as the ctrlX SENSE motor interface, which provides high-resolution feedback for accurate position and speed control.
As of now, all MS2S motors come with a single feedback option, listed as "IM" in the motor model breakdown shown below.

Encoder Specifications
-
High Resolution: The encoder has an 18 bit singleturn resolution (262,144 position counts) and 16 bits of multiturn resolution (65,536 turns). The base feedback sensor is a magnet mounted to the motor rotor and a corresponding PCB inductively generates position data.
- Memory Storage: 4 kbytes are available. Rexroth writes memory containing all motor-specific and encoder type-specific data ("electronic type plate") including: Motor data and motor control parameters, encoder resolution and absolute encoder range, and serial number of the encoder.
-
Digital Interface: The encoder operates through the ctrlX SENSE motor interface, facilitating seamless communication with the ctrlX DRIVE system.
- Ease of Use: The encoders are designed as a "Plug & Play" type which are configured automatically via the "Encoder scanning" function of ctrlX drive software.
- Motor Temp is transmitted directly to the encoder.
- The encoders can produce detailed error states and reporting to the drive. The drive recognizes replacement of the connected encoder type by checking the serial number after activation. If the serial number has changed, position data reference is deleted and the axis is no longer homed.
