Yaskawa SIGMA I series motors can come with proprietary C-channel incremental encoders. These encoders have standard A/B incremental outputs in addition to the C channel which contains all six of the commutation pulses multiplexed onto just two lines (C+ and C-). Our TI-5103 adapter module is required to test them, and demultiplexes the signals back into there six unique channels (H1 - H6).
For motors using the smaller 9 pin amp connection (TI-5025), the C-channel also contains the index pulse. For these, the TI-5103 adapter module needs to have the jumper shorted to decode the index pulse. For motors using the larger 17 pin MS connector (TI-5014), the index pulse is not encoded in the C-channel and the the jumper should be removed on the module to read the index pulse directly.
Our Generic Incremental software can be used to read these encoders, or the Yaskawa C-channel software selection if you have it. There is no difference between the two aside from the pre-stored count in the Yaskawa selections. More testing details are available in our Training Manual with additional cabling information starting on page 139 section 2.6.14.
