The Bosch/Rexroth SF series motors use proprietary Heidenhain EnDat serial encoders. Most standard model Heidenhain EnDat encoders will not work as replacements on the corresponding Bosch drive. Here is a memo which explains these unique encoders. If you do need a replacement encoder, make sure it has an Encoder ID listed in this document.
The main identifier for a compatible encoder is how the memory is formatted from Heidenhain. The OEM Area 1 needs to have 0 bytes allocated to be a compatible replacement. Our Memory Test will show this formatting on any EnDat encoder. We cannot change the memory formatting.
Here you can see the wrong encoder model used doesn't have a 0 bytes in OEM area 1 (red). Below that is an example of a data file from a correct Bosch SF encoder and the OEM area 1 is 0 (green).
