Description
The Heidenhain EBI 1135 is an inductive rotary encoder without integral bearing designed for direct integration into servo motors. This encoder features a blind hollow shaft and supports multi-turn functionality via a battery-buffered revolution counter. It communicates over EnDat2.2 which is the purely serial protocol with no 1Vpp incremental outputs. The EBI 1135 has a 19 bit singleturn resolution and a 16 bit multiturn resolution, an increase from the standard 12 bit multiturn resolution of previous EnDat encoders.
Support
We are in the process of adding this encoder to our software, however, we currently don't have an EBI 1135 selection in our system. Below is a workaround that allows testing these encoders.
TI-5000JX Setup
- Using the Heidenhain Endat > EQI1131 selection will correctly display the encoder angles and provide accurate position data.
- The ENCODER ID field will incorrectly display "EQN1335 Error". Ignore this error.
- The EQI1131 selection will only display 12 bits of the full 16 bit multiturn count.
- Due to the extra LSB in EBI 1135 encoders, the Count Test for the EQI1131 will show a stuck bit. This is an expected behavior while using this workaround and does not indicate encoder malfunction.
- If your encoder comes on a B&R 8LVA series motor, then make sure to also select our B+R Memory Test. It successfully decodes the memory, including the unique encoder alignment that is stored. Below we have listed a datasheet of a similar 8LVA motor we successfully tested using our equipment. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/j5s1ausq3csesu6ztlgzu/B-R_8LVA23.B1030D027-0_EBI1135.pdf?rlkey=pi8gz2l4ykvi6ltnh0q2e1ms6&e=1&dl=0
TI-3000JX Selection
- The software selection for run testing the EBI 1135 encoders is "Generic Endat RunSer > EQ...31"
