There are many different sizes of Indramat (Rexroth) MAC motors, and each has their own unique method for physically mounting the required Hall/DC Tach assembly. Some of the larger MAC motors with additional ABZ encoders can be tricky to dissemble to the point where you can finally make adjustments to the Halls alignment. This article shows pictures for getting down to the Hall effect board for alignment on a MAC90C sized motor.
1. Remove the incremental encoder first (if equipped). There are four 4mm hex bolts holding down the encoder housing and one screw cap cover that must be removed.
2. Once the screw cap cover is removed, you must rotate the encoder until the 3mm hex bolt becomes visible. Loosen this bolt, which loosens the coupling to the encoder shaft. The entire encoder housing assembly can now be removed.
3. With the encoder housing removed, you can now loosen the other 3mm hex coupling bolt and remove the encoder coupling from the motor.
4. Now you can remove the Halls/DC Tach cover by removing these four 4mm hex bolts.
5. Now you have access to the Halls/DC Tach board. Adjustments can be made by loosening these three Phillips head screws and turning the PCB to the desired position. Be careful of the wiring and brittle ribbon cables when making adjustments.
Here is the standard alignment:
H1 H2 H3
+U-V H/L H L
+U-W L H L/H
