Cleaning

The keypad overlay and display window are made of Lexan while the case is made of ABS plastic. The following recommendations for cleaning come from the material manufacturers. Some of the recommended cleaners for one material may not be good for the other (isopropyl alcohol for instance). The safest bet would be to select a cleaning agent that is recommended for both materials (such as Top Job).

Keypad Overlay and Display Window

For mechanical protection and splash-proof sealing, the display is covered with a clear Lexan (polycarbonate) window. The keypad overlay is also made of Lexan material. These two parts may be rinsed with a soft cloth or sponge and lukewarm water. The unit is not sealed to be waterproof, so the use of water should be minimized to prohibit water from getting inside the unit. The unit should not be scrubbed or washed with brushes or squeegee. A mild soap or detergent may be used if necessary. After washing, the soap or detergent should be wiped off with a sponge or soft cloth and clear lukewarm water.

Compatible cleaning agents are as follows:

Aqueous Solutions of Soaps and Detergents:

Windex, Joy, Fantastik, Top Job, Mr. Clean

Alcohols:

Methanol, Ethanol (denatured), Isopropyl

Organic solvents:

Aliphatic hydrocarbons, kerosene, naptha (VM&P grade), petroleum spirits, Hexcel F. O. 554, NurelcoPlacer, Turco 5042

The following should not be used:

Incompatible Cleaning Agents:

Formula 409, Lysol, Pinesol, Butyl Cellosolve, Isopropanol

Instrument Case

The instrument case is made of ABS plastic. The following guidelines are based on information supplied by the plastic resin manufacturer. The resin manufacturer tested and rated the environmental stress cracking effects of many basic chemicals and commercial products. The ratings reflect the effects of continuous exposure (7 days at 73o F) to each chemical substance. This is an extreme case relative to the process of cleaning the instrument case. The following information, therefore, should be viewed as a guideline.

Compatible cleaning agents:

Mild detergent solutions (3-5%); Ivory, Tide, Top Job.

Impact dishwasher liquid, Windex(dilute or rinse quickly). 

Higher concentrations can be used with prompt rinsing.

Incompatible Cleaning Agents:

Acetone, Benzene, Isopropyl Alcohol, Methanol, Kerosene, Ethyl Alcohol(100%), Ethylene Chloride.
